The Experience API, otherwise known as xAPI, is an open data interoperability specification for collecting the experiences people have across, with and through technologies in the connected world.
xAPI was originally developed to get better insight into learning activity from both on- and off-line learning platforms and eLearning content. Today's Learning & Development, Training and Human Resources professionals are looking to xAPI to collect and connect data from across workplace technology and digital resources using xAPI and the data unification and visualization capabilities of the Learning Record Store.
xAPI data is generated in a standardized actor—verb—object format designed to describe specific and granular information about activity. Because of this unified format, xAPI data is readable by both people and machine-technologies.
